On this day the 9th of May:


1763; The battle of Fort Detroit began: It was an ultimately unsuccessful attempt by North American Indians to capture Fort Detroit during Pontiac’s Rebellion. The siege was led primarily by Pontiac, an Odawa chief and military leader.

1915: The Second Battle of Artois took place between French and German armies.

1920: Kiev captured by the Polish army, during the Polish-Soviet war.

1942: The SS murders 588 Jewish residents of the Podolian town of Zinkiv (Khmelnytska oblast, Ukraine). The Zoludek Ghetto (in Belarus) is destroyed and all its inhabitants murdered or deported.
